Linked Half Double Crochet

Duration:   2  mins

Description

Are you looking for a dense stitch without much stretch? The linked Half Double Crochet stitch creates a thick, structured fabric, great for projects that will get lots of wear like a throw pillow, tote bag, or jacket. The Linked Half Double Crochet is very similar to a regular Half Double Crochet, with the exception of the first yarn-over. Because of the way the stitches are linked together, unbroken horizontal lines travel across the fabric, giving visual interest. Watch as Mary Beth Temple shows us how to work this sturdy and unusual stitch!

Hi, I'm Mary Beth Temple. And if you're looking for a dense stitch for something that's going to get a lot of wear or maybe a heavy sweater or a pillow for your home, I'm gonna show you how to do the linked half, double crochet. It's just like a regular half, double crochet, but there's much less space between the stitches width wise. And that's is we're going to link each stitch to the one before. Now, this is not the same as working in the horizontal or third bar, which gives you a decorative edging.

This is literally a nice thick cushy, densely patterned half, double crochet, stitch. So instead of doing the yarn over at the beginning of the stitch, I'm going to insert my hook top to bottom through that middle bar. And then I'm going to yarn over and pull up a loop. I'm going to insert my hook in the next stitch yarn over and pull up a loop. Now I have 3123, I'm gonna yarn over and finish my half double.

So instead of just a plain yarn over, I'm going through that bar first, top to bottom through the horizontal bar yarn over and draw up a loop. Insert my hook in the next stitch yarn over and draw up a loop yarn over and draw through three. So like I said, if you look, even if I pull, there is no space between these stitches. So if you want something that's not gonna have a lot of airiness to it. This is a terrific way to make that stitch happen.

Let's do that one more time. I'm going to insert my hook top to bottom through the horizontal bar yarn over and draw up a loop, insert my hook in the next stitch yarn over and draw up the loop and then I'm gonna yarn over and draw through three and finish my half, double crochet. You can use this stitch anywhere that you would normally use a half, double crochet. Once again. I'm Mary Beth Temple.

Thanks so much for hanging out and learning the linked half, double crochet.
