Pocket Sized Fidget Toy
Mary Beth TempleDescription
Mary Beth begins by chaining 8 for a foundation chain. She skips the first chain (this is a turning chain) then, working into the back bump of her chain, she makes 1 SC into each chain across. Mary Beth places a stitch marker in the top of the first stitch of the first row. She then brings the ends of the first row together, and makes a slip stitch join into the bottom of the marked stitch. This creates the twist that is necessary to create the Möbius. Make sure to leave the marker in place as you continue.
Next, Mary Beth makes a beginning ch-3 (which counts as a DC), and Works 4 DC into the same stitch as the join. She continues by making 5 DC into each of the next 6 sts. The working loop is now near the stitch marker. Make sure the stitch marker is sitting on the side of the work facing you, ready to be worked into. Work 5 DC into the marked stitch, and 5 DC into each of the next 6 stitches (you are working these into the tops of the SC stitches from the first row). If the top of the beginning ch-3 from the beginning of the round is on the back side of the work, push it through the center of your piece so that it is on the front. Join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch-3.
To finish off this toy, Mary Beth works one slip stitch into each stitch around. This adds extra structure and durability to the edge and keeps it from getting too stretched out as it gets played with. If you are using a color-changing yarn it adds a bit more visual interest as well. Watch as Mary Beth demonstrates how to make an invisible join when she fastens off her work leaving a flawless finish.
This project is such a fun way to use up small leftover bits of yarn, and is just the perfect size to keep in your pocket! Make one for yourself, for your kids or for a friend- you’ll be glad you did!
