In this video, crochet expert Mary Beth Temple shows us how to pre-string beads onto our yarn without using a beading needle. This is very handy to know how to do if you don’t own a beading needle or if you don’t want to take the time to get your beading needle out of storage.

Hi, I'm Mary Beth Temple. Sometimes when I'm crocheting with beads and I wanna do some pres stringing. The last thing I can put my hands on is my beading needle and it makes me crazy. I lose them all the time or I break them and I wanna work on my project, but I don't have that beading needle close to hand. There's a way to thread beads onto my crochet yarn using just a regular sewing needle and thread.

You're going to cut a small piece of thread about 12 inches and thread it through your regular sewing needle with the two ends on one side so that you have a fold on the other side. Now, all I have to do is take my yarn and put it into the fold, grab my beads and put them on the sewing needle and sewing needles are very fine. So they go through almost any kind of bead. Now, I'm going to pull my needle through the beads and that fold of thread is going to pull the yarn right through the beads as well. So now my beads are all seated so I can crochet and there wasn't a beading needle in sight.
